Women's Health Check-ups: Which Tests to Get and When
By Jade Speciality Hospitals1 min readUpdated 6 October 2026

Many women's health conditions develop quietly. Regular check-ups find them early, when treatment is simpler and more effective.
In your 20s and 30s
- Pap smear / cervical screening: usually from age 21–25, repeated at intervals your doctor will advise.
- Breast awareness and clinical breast examination: learn what is normal for you and report any lump or change.
- Blood tests: hemoglobin, thyroid and vitamin D, especially if you feel tired or have irregular periods.
- Pregnancy planning: see a gynecologist before conceiving for folic acid, vaccinations and a health review.
From 40 onwards
- Mammography: commonly advised every one to two years from around age 40.
- Blood pressure, sugar and cholesterol: heart disease risk rises after menopause.
- Bone health: discuss a bone density test if you have risk factors for osteoporosis.
When to see a doctor sooner
Do not wait for your next check-up if you notice:
- Very heavy, painful or irregular periods
- Bleeding between periods or after menopause
- Pelvic pain that does not settle
- A new breast lump or nipple discharge
Screening schedules differ from person to person, so your gynecologist will tailor them to your age, history and risk factors.
